Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse

“We have moved far away from the natural way of eating.”
Ayurveda is a sister science to yoga and it is primarily a preventative approach to optimal health and conscious living. Ayurveda teaches us how to attune to the rhythms of nature on a deep level to optimize our wellbeing and overall happiness. Ayurvedic philosophy believes that food is medicineand that healthy, nutritional, seasonal foods, whole grains, healing spices, along with disciplined self-care and daily nurturing rituals, are the only medicines we need for vibrant, healthy living.
Spring is the optimal time for rejuvenation and transformation, and this spring cleanse will help us rid our bodies of the excess build-up of the stagnant toxins (ama) accumulated from the rich and heavy foods we often consume in fall and winter. It will also help us shed the heavy and lethargic energies that we commonly carry around in the winter months. We cleanse now to be prepared to be in tune with the season of lightness, growth, vibrancy and new beginnings.
The cleanse starts with a 1.5 hour meeting the week prior to familiarize you with ayurveda and the cleanse itself. I will provide everyone participating in the cleanse with an in-depth 12 page manual that will detail every aspect of the cleanse.
For now, and in a nut shell, the cleanse is 8 days long and consists of a 3 day pre-cleanse of whole grains and seasonal fruits and veggies, followed by 3 days of the main cleanse- a mono diet of “Kitchari” which is a healing, warm, cleansing dish of basmati rice, mung beans and spices, and lastly, a 2 day rejuvenation phase of slowly incorporating smart food choices back into your diet. Daily rituals that balance us, called dinacharyas, are also incorporated into every aspect of the cleanse. This is an excellent time to set new habits around healthy living and eating.
For those of you who have done a cleanse before, please note that every time you do a cleanse it heals you on a deeper level. Each cleanse is a unique experience. We build up so many layers of toxins over the years…chemical, emotional and physical, and each cleanse helps us to rid a unique and unwanted layer of buildup, bringing us closer to our highest wellbeing and to a state of greater purity.
Once the cleanse is underway, you will receive daily emails to encourage and support you in the process, and Bethany will be available to answer any questions you may have along the way. After the cleanse is completed, we meet as a group to discuss all the changes we have seen and to set seasonal ayurvedic guidelines moving forward to maintain the healthiest possible you.Bethany Cantin is an inspirational Ayurvedic Wellness Councelor and Yoga Therapist.
