Stay Glowing Weeks After a Facial
Immediately after having a facial, your skin looks and feels amazing. But, did you know that there are things that you can do at home in between visits to prolong those effects? As an esthetician, I recommend having facial treatments monthly in order to reap the benefits of a professional deep cleaning and exfoliation. Even if you are only getting facials a few times a year, you will see visible results with proper home care. Here are five things that you can do after a facial to keep your skin looking refreshed.
- Relax. When you leave the treatment room, go home and relax. Do not touch your face or attempt at home extractions. If a blemish is healing, let it heal. All of the finishing product your skin needs is applied at the end of a facial, so you don’t need to do anything but relax. The best way to look well rested is to actually get some rest.
- Edit your makeup bag. Get rid of old products, and give makeup brushes a good cleaning. You can use hand soap or even hand sanitizer to clean brushes. This is important, especially if you haven’t done it in a while. You may want to skip makeup for several hours after a facial. If you do decide to apply makeup, just make sure to use clean brushes.
- Adopt a routine. Find a few products that you love and use them. It is better to have 3 products you love and use than a drawer full that you don’t. Start with a cleanser, scrub and moisturizer. Use the cleanser and moisturiser 2-3 times per day and the scrub 2-3 times per week. For a more in depth routine, you can add a toner, serum, balm and facial oil daily right before you moisturize and apply sunscreen.
- Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and try to cut back on caffeine. Dehydration accelerates the aging processes and makes your skin look dull. Combat this not only by drinking water but also eating fresh fruits and vegetables. It is also important to use a good moisturizer so your skin doesn’t feel dry.
- Detox and increase circulation by exfoliating. During a treatment, impurities are extracted from your skin. Exfoliation provides removal of dead skin cells and lymphatic drainage is done to eliminate toxins. Keep the glow up at home by using a facial scrub a few times a week.
Being diligent in taking care of your skin will prolong any facial treatment. Following these five steps is sure to keep your skin glowing and feeling as fresh as it did the day of your treatment.
